Established in 1927 by Harry Burgess, Burgess was incorporated as a limited company in 1955. For over 75 years burgess has remained a family run company and has manufactured expertly hand crafted, quality beds for the home, hostels, shipping lines and for anyone who was in need of beds.

By the late 1920’s the Burgess Bedding Company had managed to secure the business of many independent High Street customers as well as multiple chain outlets.

The Manchester Miller

Burgess pocketed sprung mattresses were used on the first British vessel to sail through the Great St. Lawrence Seaway in Canada.

The Rovers Return, 1920

“I read with great interest the recent article about the researchers who discovered a “Rovers Return” beer house in Manchester in the 1920’s. I can remember the Rovers Return which faced the Hen Market in Shudehill. It was next to the Burgess Bedding factory. Unfortunately the inn was allowed to fall into disrepair and in the time became and antique shop. After the war, the building was demolished… I doubt if that would be allowed to happen today. I am enclosing a picture of the Rovers Return from my collection of bygone Manchester”
