Reflection from 4 days at Interiors Birmingham 2008 has concluded
with the announcement of the Cabinet Maker awards on Friday (9th February). Competition was intense and expectation high with the launch of new brands, ranges, products and ideas for 2008. The disappointment from the show was as ever the absence of some of the industries leading brands although this could not distract from what was an absorbing event.
To the awards:
Best Bed went to Jay-Be for their Eden model which fought off fierce competition at the show from amongst others the new Sealy Mirrorform RPC 7000. Best Cabinet went to Pinetum for their Media Unit whilst Best Lighting went to Philips for their Living Colours range. Best Dining was secured by G-Plan Cabinets new Elements range which follows strongly from the introduction of their new Chateaux range. Best Upholstery Sofa was won by the Ercol Napoli which was an eye catcher at the show, fending off the competition from Wade, Legacy and Vale. Wade was successful through their new Verana brand with the Nexus which was crowned Best Leather Sofa. Verana from Wade was launched at the show and it paid off on what was the biggest display stand for 2008. The Home Accessory award went to Svaja for their Scarlet Orchid with the Best Trade Marketing Campaign going to TCS which undoubtedly provided most brochure bags at the show. Interiors Retailer of the Year went to Vale Furnishers from Surrey with Retail Sales Person of the Year sponsored by Halo going to Eva Livina from Espacio. Best Interiors Website went to furniture.ie and Best Consumer Marketing Campaign went to Halo.
The awards offer a time to reflect for the industry on how the market will fair over the coming 12 months. Notions of doom and gloom from the industry and national press must be considered against the backdrop of these awards which show some of the very best of new British furniture. The true reflection of these products and the industry as a whole will be through sales of these products over the next 12 months. One thing is for certain and that is that the winners will take great confidence from the results whilst those not so fortunate will ponder how to improve.
