Titchmarsh and Goodwin
Oak Wood Finishes
Titchmarsh & Goodwin
For the finest in furniture making
Titchmarsh & Goodwin have been creating beautiful handmade furniture since 1920 for a worldwide clientele. They are proud of their multi-skilled craftsmen, whose work is of the highest quality. They are renowned for their hand-polishing, which is finished to exhibition standards.
Titchmarsh & Goodwin’s design studio has a unique archive of designs, numbering more than 30,000 which have been accumulated over more than eighty-seven years. They have the ability to make one-off “custom” designs, in a variety of styles and will be glad to provide detailed scale drawings for clients.
Titchmarsh & Goodwin insist that their timber originates from sustainable sources.
Titchmarsh & Goodwin always select standing timber from mature British woodland, mainly in East Anglia; they even manage their own woodlands at Edwardstone in Suffolk, and have developed their own tree nursery.
The company owns sawmills at the village of Witnesham, where timber is cut and air dried in the time-honoured fashion in the open, generally allowing a summer's drying for every inch of a plank's thickness.
Karelian Birch Furniture
This extraordinarily beautiful timber grows in sustainable forests in Western Russia and in the state of Karelia, Finland.
Exceptionally rare birch trees can produce astonishing burr growths, which are cut into fine veneers for the Titchmarsh & Goodwin craftsmen to produce classic designs with Biedermeier, Baltic and Empire influence. The light colours of Karelian Birch, coupled with ebonised enrichments, enable the pieces to blend perfectly within even the most modern home.
Mahogany and Yew Furniture
Inspired by classic English designers such as Chippendale, Sheraton & Hepplewhite, the Titchmarsh & Goodwin team has replicated and refined these timeless classic designs to produce elegant pieces of furniture which command a place in today’s modern home. The finished products in glowing colours of Mahogany, Rosewood, Satinwood and Yew are a delight to see and touch.
Oak Furniture
There is a longstanding British tradition of making furniture from English Oak timber and the company’s designs range from the period 1500-1820.
Titchmarsh & Goodwin own their own sustainable woodlands, from which the timber is taken to Titchmarsh & Goodwin's sophisticated sawmill at Witnesham where all of their English Oak is cut, air-seasoned and finally kiln-dried.
Walnut Furniture
Walnut was the prized timber of the early 18th century, the “Golden Age” of English furniture. Titchmarsh & Goodwin specialise in English Walnut (Juglans Regia,) their craftsmen enhancing this furniture by selecting swirl and burr veneers of exquisite beauty. The depth of colour and patination on a finished piece of Titchmarsh & Goodwin walnut furniture has to be experienced for oneself - no photograph can really do it justice.
